Illinois to Sue Milwaukee Over Lake Michigan Pollution
Illinois Attorney General William J. Scott said he will file an anti pollution suit in the U S Supreme Court against Milwaukee and later move against 22 other municipalities and industries for dumping inadequately treated sewage into Lake Michigan He noted Wisconsin Michigan and Indiana AGs would join if required The move follows a Midwest conference on science technology and state government in Arlington Heights Illinois and aims to curb pollution of the lake.

Monroe Guard Unit Display Traces 32nd Division Roots
A Monroe Chamber of Commerce window show honors Co B of the National Guard with a Ft. Lewis certificate recalling nine years since the unit served with the 32nd Division. Under Capt. Dwight C. Coplien, the company began active duty Oct 15 1961 at Monroe Armory, moving toward Fort Lewis Washington. Training included Escape Evade exercises, radio orientation, land mine warfare, and POW drills as the unit prepared for STRAC status amid visits from high rankers and Congress members.

Sergeant Denies Vietnam Shootings At My Lai Trial
S. Sgt. David Mitchell testified he shot no Vietnamese during the 1968 My Lai massacre. He described gathering about 30 civilians and placing them in a ditch while under Lt. Calley’s order to check the village. Witnesses recalling the firing testified Mitchell stood near a hut as shooting began.

15 Marines Killed in Vietnam Helicopter Crash
In fog near Da Nang a CH46 helicopter carrying Marines crashed into a mountain, killing all 15 aboard. Lt Col William Leftwich of Memphis, a noted adviser, was among the dead.
