City Firemen Respond Twice This Weekend
Monroe firemen were called out twice over the weekend. At 5 18 p m yesterday they were summoned to the Nathan Grinnell home where an oil burning hot water heater overheated. On Saturday police answered a call to a culvert near the old airport north west of Oaktron where three or four youths hunting had cooked food and started a grass and tar fire.

The 30 member Monroe High School Student Exchange group returned home with happy memories after a well paced trip to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. They visited Heinz main plant IBM Fort Pitt and local steel mills and toured Fort Knox Lincoln birthplace and Old Kentucky Home. Albany Farm Hosts National Guard Combat Training
Gunfire near Albany Saturday afternoon and night drew a crowded scene as National Guard units Company B Beloit and Company C engaged in a combat training exercise on a Dwight Bump farm. The drill ran from 1 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. with jeeps, blank ammunition, flares, and simulated grenades. After dark both sides used flares and the exercise continued until eight p.m. Food was brought from the Monroe Armory and consumed in the field.
