Vatican approves Christian unity schema by large margin

In Vatican City the Vatican Ecumenical Council approved the Christian unity schema 1,870 to 82, paving the way for a full church decree by Pope Paul VI. Madison mayor asks MHA director to resign after conviction

Madison Mayor Henry Reynolds said he would ask Robert Callsen, Madison Housing Authority director, to resign following conviction on two traffic charges. Callsen, 57, received 62 days in jail for driving with a revoked license after a drunken drive. The judge suspended the sentence until at least Dec 10 to allow appeals.

Layden to Speak at UW Grid Banquet in Madison

Elmer Layden former Notre Dame fullback and member of the Four Horsemen will address the Wisconsin football banquet on November 24. Layden later became NFL commissioner and currently works for a Chicago transportation firm. Also notes columnist Pat Robinson, 74, died after a long illness following a 25 year career with INS.

Ford Motor Co 160000 hourly workers face possible full layoff next week as parts shortages from local UAW strikes cut output totals to 36000 cars and 6000 trucks last week. Mother Shoots Self and Three Children in Morton Grove Tragedy

In Morton Grove Illinois a 35 year old mother Rosemarie Vavrosky killed two of her children Charles Jr four and April two and then shot herself. Another daughter Marie nine was wounded and a fourth child Donna seven was outside during the incident. Police found a five page suicide note in the kitchen explaining the killings and her belief she could not take the children elsewhere. The husband Charles a 33 year old sheet metal worker said the gun was kept in the home for protection against prowlers.

License examiners to wear civilian outfits in Madison

Wisconsin drivers license examiners numbering 133 will shed military style uniforms adopted since 1955. Olive green jackets and soft brimmed hats will identify examiners as civilian personnel, said Dean Van Gorden, head of the examining staff, in Madison.
