Sam Goecks of Washington Township named Green County’s top conservationist for 1970 at the Green County Conservation Recognition Banquet held at Monroe High School. Nine Americans Die in Vietnam On Day of Heavy Combat
In Vietnam an explosion and a patrol attack killed nine Americans and wounded 12, the largest daily American death toll in a month. Two North Vietnamese or Viet Cong were reported killed. The Americal Division suffered a 22 ton truck blast in Quang Ngai Province. Additional American soldiers died and were wounded in a separate booby trap incident. North Vietnamese forces attacked a 25th Infantry Division patrol near Saigon, with one American killed and six wounded. A Vietnamese convoy came under ambush near Saigon, with two South Vietnamese soldiers killed and one wounded. Cambodian fronts remained quiet after earlier heavy attacks.

AP reports a three year contract worth about 2.3 billion dollars in higher wages for 394,000 UAW members at General Motors plants. Vote deadlines are set for November 20 with results by November 21, aiming for production to resume by December 1. A strike could extend into its tenth week by then.
