Monroe man builds eight foot telescope observatory

Nathan R. Roth of Monroe has an eight foot telescope and a two story observatory under construction. He teaches astronomy to students, counsels Boy Scouts, attends Madison Astronomical Club lectures, and hopes to install the telescope next spring. His gear includes a 12 1 2 inch reflector with 270x power and a solar furnace on the first floor.

Veterans Day observances mark 40th armistice anniversary

Veterans Day events include courthouse and city hall closures, postal service reductions, and a 7 am to 6 pm lobby for lock box patrons. Dillman Admits Oshkosh Slaying

MADISON The Winnebago County district attorney says 22 year old Vernon Dillman has confessed to killing 17 year old Ruth Schmidt of Oshkosh with a tire tool on August 15. Dillman, a probationer, was apprehended in Nebraska after being seen with Schmidt the night she disappeared.

Two Women Die In Illinois Crash Near Rockford

Two women died in an auto crash at Illinois 70 and Meridian Road near Rockford Friday night. Eleanor Krise, 22, of Rockford, a technician at the Northern Illinois Blood Bank, died in the crash. Faye E. Kitzmiller, 17, of Rockford, a Winnebago High School senior and recent homecoming queen candidate, also perished. Krise was a passenger in the car driven by Lewis C. Clark, 25, of Rockford, who was injured but not gravely.

Four Injured In City Crash In Monroe Morning

Four people were injured in a car semi collision on 9th street near an Aufenacht station in Monroe at 9 30 a m. Injured were Mrs Gordon Laugesen 58 of Cassville who had a fractured knee and was treated at St Clare hospital, Eugene Laugesen 21 of rural Potosi with left thigh contusions, Gordon Laugesen 70 with bruised knees, and Lucille Laugesen 21 of Randolph Air Force Base Texas with a bruised right knee.

Allen Buss Dies In Farm Mishap

Allen F Buss 56 of Lena Sr farmer and brother of Barton Buss of 2723 8th street died yesterday afternoon when his jacket was caught in a tractor power takeoff. Found about 4 pm at his farm four miles southwest of Lena by farm hand Ray Voss. Coroner Gene Burke and Deputy Sheriff Glen Oefelein said clothing entangled and pulled onto the spinning shaft. Inquest will be held. American Motors to Hire 1000 More Workers This Month

A spokesman for American Motors Corp said the firm will add about 1,000 employees this month at Milwaukee and Kenosha plants as production rises from 1,150 to 1,280 cars daily. The hires will come from existing applicants, raising Wisconsin employment to around 16,500.

CAPE CANAVERAL Fla The Air Force launched its third moon rocket but the third stage failed to ignite leaving the craft at about 1000 miles short of the moon. Officials reported all stages fired before the third stage failed. The mission aimed for a 50 000 mile lunar approach and possible orbit.
