Richardson charged with murder in parathion poisoning

Arcadia Florida 31 year old W James Richardson was charged on a coroner s warrant with first degree murder in the parathion poisoning of his seven children. A six member coroner s jury found he and unknown others feloniously wilfully and with malice aforethought and premeditated design.

Monroe High School presents The Music Man Nov 10–11

The Monroe High School Chorus stages Meredith Willson's The Music Man in the Junior High School Auditorium on November 10 and 11. The show features Seventy Six Trombones, Trouble, Marian the Librarian, Lida Rose, and Sincere with John Schuetze as Harold Hill and Kathleen Bernet as Marian Paroo. River City residents perform roles with a seventy-voice chorus and a special high school stage band. Curtain is 8 p.m. each night.

Milwaukee teachers threaten boycott over $8,000 minimum salary

Wisconsin Education Association delegates approve a resolution to relocate Milwaukee convention sites if the city won’t fund schools. They back a minimum starting pay of 8000 dollars and endorse pressure against noncompliant communities. The plan warns Milwaukee could lose the 1968 convention, which drew 22 000 attendees this week. Governor Knowles announces a 13.4 million program to boost school funding. The measure follows support from Madison Teachers Inc and aims to guide teacher recruiters.

Seven Moran gangsters killed in 1929 garage to be razed

The North Side brick garage where seven of George Bugs Moran’s men were shot by machine gun fire on St Valentine’s Day 1929 will be torn down to replace it with a home for the elderly. The killings were tied to a feud with Al Capone’s gang, and the site has housed a storage company since 1949.

Storage Space Sought For Christmas Toy Stocking Project

The Monroe Woman’s Club Christmas Stocking Committee seeks storage for large donated toys needed until Christmas. A garage or accessible space is desired so committee members can select items for needy families. Soldier declared dead shows signs of life in Vietnam

Spec 4 Jacky C Bayne 22 of Fort Mill South Carolina was pronounced dead near Chu Lai after 45 minutes of resuscitation. An embalmer’s incision revived him briefly and he was rushed to a field hospital and later Walter Reed for recovery. Doctors call the case amazing and a medical rarity with steady improvement noted.

Coplien Promoted to Major in Wisconsin National Guard

Monroe police chief Dwight C. Coplien is promoted to intelligence officer for the 32nd Division Support Command with the Wisconsin Army National Guard. He will oversee safeguarding classified material and personnel with units across Madison and several Wisconsin towns while maintaining top secret clearance. Coplien began as a private in Company B about 20 years ago and now serves with his wife Joyce Grinnell and two children.

Hospital Expansion Decisions Expected

Final decisions on the extent of St. Clare Hospital expansion will be made at a mid November meeting. A recent architects meeting with Sister M Wilfreda hospital administrator Dr Edward Zupanc chief of staff and Robert Bussen development fund chairman prepared for the decision. The success of the St Clare Hospital Fund Appeal will determine the expansion possible now and plans may be trimmed to fit funds.

Capital Times sports writer Lew Cornelius, injured in an October 25 auto accident, remained in serious condition after undergoing surgery on Thursday. He is a noted Madison sports correspondent.

Buening Named By March of Dimes To Direct Campaign

Terry K Buening of Monroe was named chairman of the 1968 March of Dimes campaign in Green County and his wife Sue was named head of the Mothers March. The couple recently attended a planning meeting in Chicago for the 30th Anniversary Campaign to be held in Green County in January 1968.

Donahoe Services Scheduled Monday

Cpl. David Donahoe 20 of rural Belmont was killed in action in Vietnam on October 28. Services will be held Monday at 1 30 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Truman Wisconsin with burial in the church cemetery. Rosary will be recited Sunday at 8 p.m. at Steil Funeral Home Darlington. He earned two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star during less than 10 months in the Army. He is survived by Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Donahoe.
