Mrs Scheidegger Dies at 84 Near Davis Illinois

Rolling Car Strikes Rear Entrance Stairs

City police investigated two auto accidents with property damage and no injuries. Bernard J. Keegan’s car rolled from a stall and broke a rear entry stair at Thorpe Finance Corp, with slight damage to the Keegan vehicle. A separate collision at 9th Street and 22nd Avenue damaged the Heinzelmen and Schroeder cars, with extensive damage to Heinzelmen’s front end and Schroeder’s right front fender and bumper.

Names Added To Honor Roll At Greenwood Cemetery

Twenty two names were added to the Veterans of All Wars Honor Roll at Greenwood cemetery for Memorial Day. Capt Hugo Voelkli read the list of vets who died from May 30 1957 to yesterday. Memorial Day address was by Rev Jesse Dom. Wreaths were placed, the Monroe high school band played, and the parade moved from the Armory to the cemetery. The Jaycees served chicken for over 850 and proceeds supported the Green County hospital and a Jaycee picnic.

Chicago Pays Tributes to Cardinal Stritch in Funeral Procession

Thousands filed past the coffin of Cardinal Samuel Stritch, archbishop of Chicago, as his body lay in state at Holy Name Cathedral. A caravan drew a quarter million mourners along an 18 mile route from O'Hare Field to the cathedral before Tuesday's funeral. Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Amleto Ciocognani, the apostolic delegate to the United States.

Children's Fishing Pond Opens East of Monroe at Sunrise

Teamsters Strike Ties Up Philadelphia Newspapers

The Teamster Union halted circulation of The Philadelphia Inquirer on Friday night and extended the strike to the Philadelphia Bulletin and the Camden Courier Post. Pickets blocked entrances to all three papers.

Two Inches Needed Holiday Rainfall Aids Pastures

A half inch of rain improved soil moisture but two inches are needed for June grass pastureland, corn germination, and alfalfa growth. Middleton Publisher Dies of Heart Attack

Thomas R. Daniels 61 publisher of the Middleton Times Tribune died Friday of a heart attack after completing the town Memorial Day parade. He led the paper since 1924 after graduating from the University of Wisconsin in 1923 where he was a notable miler on the track team.

Four Lose Lives In State Mishaps

Memorial Day weekend toll rises with four deaths in Wisconsin including a motorcycle crash in Washington County, a in-city car crash in Manitowoc, a Kimberly auto fire on Highway 29 near Shawano, and a fatal ambulance crash near Juneau. Two County Mishaps Reported by Deputies

Deputies logged two minor accidents over the holiday weekend. A car struck a horse north of Monroe at 4:30 a.m. injuring the animal. the horse was shot. A second sideswipe on Highway 118 near the Bluff View bridge injured no one and caused moderate vehicle damage to Kneth Carlson and Bernard Albright.

Schiller to Compete in Harvard Milk Day Contest

Monroe Mayor Victor N. Schiller will join 20 northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin officials in a cow milking contest at Harvard Milk Day in Harvard Illinois next Saturday. He will attend with Mrs. Schiller and local residents and promote Green County dairy products and Dairy Day at Brodhead on June 21. Swiss Colony donates a cheese box to Harvard mayor Ronald Morris.

Nels Jacobson Dies at 72 in Darlington

Nels Jacobson 72 of Darlington died Thursday of a heart attack while visiting his son David painting at Curry Trucking Co. Born September 21 1885 in Norway he settled in Wisconsin in 1902. Survived by three daughters a son a sister twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Sub’s Crewmen Saved After Ram by Destroyer

A Navy officer said it was a miracle that any of the eight officers or 84 crewmen escaped from the submarine Stickleback before she sank Thursday after being rammed by the destroyer escort Silverstein. Lt. Cmdr. R. Schulz of Racine said his sub lost power just before the collision.

Services for Edna Dunwiddie 83 were held at Shriner Neushwander Funeral Home with Rev. Jesse R. Dom of the Universalist church officiating. Burial followed at Greenwood cemetery. Niece Mary Dunwiddie from Colorado Springs attended, pallbearers named James S. Bray Fred A. Roth Jerome H. Schwaiger Frank Hauser Emil W. Tschabold and Dr L A Moore. She was the daughter of Judge Brooks Dunwiddie, Green County pioneer.
