Rep Lemke Dies On Visit in Fargo
William A. Lemke veteran congressman and farm bloc leader died at 71 after collapsing in a hotel lobby in Fargo. He had returned home for Memorial Day recess while campaigning for renomination on the Republican ticket. Lemke first won in 1932, served to 1941, and was reelected in 1944 where he remained continuously. He co authored the Frazier Lemke act on farm mortgage financing.
