Senator Carter Glass of Virginia Dies at 88
Senator Carter Glass of Virginia longtime congressman father of the federal reserve system died early today at the Mayflower hotel. He was 88, the oldest sitting senator, and had been ill since June 1942. Glass helped draft the Federal Reserve Act in 1913 and opposed the New Deal on some points. He served as secretary of the treasury under Wilson and later as a senator until 1949. He married Mary V. F. Glass after the death of his first wife Aurelia.
