Warren High School held commencement with 69 seniors earning diplomas in the gym. Dr. R Clyde Yarbrough spoke on A Pattern for Great Living while Miles Vokurka led the band. Awards were presented by Raymond Lipovac and Albert Stocks with George Stich assisting.
Platteville special feature profiles Stanley J. Bruegger a PSU Class of 1967 graduate with high honors who juggled final exams family duties and work. A 1950 South Wayne High School alumnus he farmed prior to college and earned 157 credits with a 3.77 GPA while pursuing agriculture education and later a PhD track at Purdue University.
Memorial Day activities include barbecued chicken served by Jaycees at 10 a.m. on the Fair grounds followed by a 1 p.m. On To Baltimore auction led by Marvin Bidlingmaier to defray Monroe Jaycees convention costs. Items for auction welcomed with free pickup and consignment option arranged by Raymond Ransom.
Russell Visner, 18, Route 1, Brodhead, was admitted to St. Clare Hospital at 8:30 p.m. after a late model two door car ran off Highway 104 three miles north of Brodhead at 7:16 p.m. He suffered a fractured jaw neck lacerations and multiple bruises. Everson Ambulance carried him to the hospital, according to Rock County Sheriff's Department.
Weather across the country promotes auto travel as Memorial Day extends into a four day weekend. With the holiday on Tuesday many workers have Monday off. The National Safety Council warns holiday highway deaths could reach 650 to 750.
