The official Cheese Day emblem is reproduced on new gummed stickers by Cheese Day Inc. It appears on stationery and envelopes and dominated large color signs taken to Washington for Swiss Cheese Day in Congress. The design features a green background with golden yellow wheel and lettering and is set to promote printing and events through September 9.
Alderman O L Hare led a halt to painting parking stalls and street markings off the square to await a committee decision. The plan targets intersections at 9th street with 18th and 15th avenues and contemplates changing stalls from diagonal to curbside and possibly banning parking at the center of the intersections. City crews have been repainting stalls with yellow paint and reflective plastic bubbles for night visibility.
Washington township butterfat pledge marks first signatory for half-cent per pound checkoff on all milk deliveries. At Turner hall meeting, Russell W. He spoke at a dinner honoring him by 450 people from six counties of Wisconsin's sixth district and sent telegrams to Draft Keefe leaders and the district GOP chairman saying he declines to be a candidate for Congress.

Prague orders the United States to reduce its diplomatic staff in Czechoslovakia to 12, counting embassy personnel in Prague and the Bratislava consulate. The move likely drops Prague staffing to four or five. Earlier April 98 cuts had reduced Prague staff from 67 to about 15.
General Motors and the CIO united auto workers announced a new five year contract for about 260,000 GM workers. The deal includes 100 dollar monthly pensions with federal social security, and potential increases as government benefits rise for those 65 and over.

The House approved a compromise bill authorizing a $3,120,550,000 program of economic aid to Europe and non communist areas. Prompt Senate action was expected. The vote stood 247 to 88. It authorizes a third year of the four year Marshall plan. A separate bill funding the program is being prepared by the House Appropriations Committee.
