Patrols Win Honors At Caveman Camporee
The Flaming Arrow patrol of Monroe Troop 101 won the overall excellence award at the Yellowstone Lake Valley District Caveman Camporee over the weekend. Top patrol leader John Benkett scored 625 of 800 points. Badger patrol took second with 602 and Panther patrol finished third with 597. Jim Klassy of New Glarus Troop 148 won a fishing contest with a 14% inch suck er using primitive gear. The event drew 123 boys in 23 patrols with 30 adults, across several troops including New Glarus 148 and Monroe troops 101 113 114 115, and was marked by varied challenges and a well attended campfire show.

Funeral for Monroe senior Burkhard Jr. held at church
Monroe high school dismissed at 2 p.m. to permit students to attend the funeral for William A. Burkhard Jr. 17 a senior who died from injuries in a one car accident. The service was at St Johns United Church of Christ with grave side rites at Greenwood Cemetery conducted by DeMoley members and local officials. An investigation by Coroner Wilbur E. Deininger and Dist. Atty. Joseph D. Viney continued after the funeral.

Nelson backs state tax on nonresidents to aid localities
Gov. Nelson endorses a proposal allowing Wisconsin to tax income of nonresidents employed in the state and to channel funds to communities losing tax revenue to Minnesota.
