Monroea mayor saved after ditch cave in

Frank A. Buehler 79 Monroe mayor for 12 years was rescued after a nine foot ditch caved in at a home site on 23rd Street. He sustained an open fracture and bruises but remained conscious as three workers and police and firefighters dug him free and rushed him to St. Clare Hospital in good condition.

Ted Weiss and Sgt. Ervin L. Goecks attended a southwest area Civil Defense directors meeting in Rock County Courthouse Janesville to review the new Tornado Watch system. Auxiliary Poppy Day Set by Monroe Legion May 27

The American Legion Auxiliary will hold Poppy Day on May 27 in Monroe and Greene to honor veterans of World Wars I and II, the Korean War, and Vietnam. Heart Patient Dies at Houston After Artificial Heart

Houston Methodist Hospital reports the death of Walter L. McCans, the second patient to receive a partial artificial heart implant. The hospital bulletin cites complications over 48 hours and pulmonary insufficiency as the probable cause. The unit was removed after 27 hours of function.

Girl Scouts Plan 29 Mile Wisconsin River Canoe Trip

Twenty three Girl Scouts of Senior Troop 217 with leader Mrs. George R. Barry and other adults will canoe 25 miles down the Wisconsin River from Tower Hill State Park to Muscoda in a Badger Council sponsored trip. They will camp at the park tonight and return to Monroe tomorrow evening after a trail lunch and de hydrated meals.

Iron Workers Rate Increase Affects Monroe Ramp Bid

City officials were notified that iron workers wage rose from 2.50 to 4.45 per hour for the Monroe Parking Ramp. The change, limited to general contractors, will not alter project price as unions set the higher rate. Bid extensions to 4 p.m. today were announced at the Municipal Building.
