Corpus Christi Oil Fire Ends After Foamite Stopper

A million-dollar blaze at the Corpus Christi port was quelled after firefighters used carbon dioxide foamite to suffocate the flames. Two hundred thousand pounds of foamite arrived from Houston, and the final collapse of an 80,000-gallon kerosene tank preceded the fire’s end. Firefighters confined the fire to the General American tank terminal as a massive blast rocked the area early morning.

Fred Sterchi Dies at Monticello at 49

Fred Sterchi 49 was found dead late at his Railroad avenue home in Monticello. Death by hanging is believed to have occurred Thursday. Coroner Herman A. Stuessy said no inquest would be held. He was a New Glarus native, born December 24 1902, and moved to Monticello in 1920. He worked in Madison and Chicago restaurants and hotels. Services will be at 2 p m tomorrow at Voegeli funeral home, with Rev. Lynn F B Tschudy officiating. Burial in Highland cemetery. Friends may call after 7 p m today.

Three man unit staffs the county radio desk and jailers to maintain a round the clock communications center for Green County. They monitor five police radio circuits, log all calls, relay reports to officers, and coordinate emergency responses with city and county units and state agencies.

Funeral rites set for Green County treasurer Louis B Stauffacher

Members of the Green County Board and county officials will attend the funeral of County Treasurer Louis B Stauffacher tomorrow. They meet at 1 45 PM outside Immanuel Evangelical United Brethren church for the 2 o'clock services. Stauffacher died Thursday morning at St Clare hospital after a second cerebral hemorrhage in two weeks. Pallbearers include Albert Wuetrich Clifford Leck Victor Corson Victor Marean G L Redman and J W Tschanz. Rev Howard L Orians will give the sermon When Life Tumbles In. Plans for Green County Fair are under way for the 98th annual event July 30 to Aug 3. Restrooms at the east gate will be rebuilt, amphitheater seats renumbered, and capacity trimmed from 1700.
