A 70 year old feed mill in Whitewater owned by Anderson Milling Co was destroyed by fire early today. The two and a half story wooden building suffered as fire chief Joe McCormick estimated losses at 50000 dollars with cause undetermined.
The Church of the Outdoors atop Kubly Park near Monroe will host the first service of its kind in the United States. The May 18 7:45 p.m. event will be led by Rev. Wylie Fulton of Monroe's First Baptist Church, with a congregational meeting following.

AP reports Chicago Teachers Union plans a vote on a possible walkout affecting 523 public schools next Thursday if a majority of its 19 000 members approve. A yes would launch the citywide strike and closing of schools while negotiations continue.
Barb Wegmueller from Monroe competes in District One for the Alice in Dairyland crown at 8 p.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church Platteville. Eleven contestants from the region include Roberta Hollinger and Diane Side of Darlington, Mary Ellen Erb of Blanchardville, and Isla Rae Argue of Belleville in District Four. A downtown Platteville parade at 2 p.m. features the Platteville Senior High School Band Explorer Scouts and a National Guard Honor Guard.
