Monroe High School Concert Band Plans May 17 Event
The informal free concert by Monroe School System’s new Concert Band is set for May 17 at 8 p.m. in the Monroe High School Lecture Hall. Vance Nelson will direct a 45 minute program featuring Mike Hughes as sousaphone soloist with Christi Ault on piano. Judy Winger, a symphonic band member, will also sing in School Days and appear on tenor saxophone. The group, still forming, is expected to grow to symphonic band size. Barnard and Nelson direct and have previously performed for the High School Christmas and at the Monroe Manor Home.

Open House Planned At New City Building
Area residents are reminded of an open house tomorrow at the new Municipal Building from 1 to 5 p.m. School instrumental groups will entertain in the Community Room. The mayor, aldermen and other elected officials will be on hand to show the public the offices and equipment now in use.
Chicago editors tour milk shed farms and factories
A joint tour by eight Chicago newspapers visited the Chicago milk shed including farms in Illinois and Wisconsin and cheese plants in Monticello. Sites included Voegeli Farm and Town Hall Cheese Factory with Otto Munz Jr. and Walter Donovan as guides. Inclement weather delayed a Roger Stauffacher farm visit and diners bought local cheese at Baumgartner's.

55 Bicycles Licensed By Police And VFW
Another 55 bicycles were registered and licensed by the Monroe Police Department and the VFW this morning. Sgt. Ervin L. Goecks said 1,079 bikes have now been registered. He also said registration will be held again next Saturday morning from 8 to 9 in the parking lot behind the new City Building.

Airlift Postponed Again to May 22 in Green County
Richard Newcomer chair of the county National Foundation chapter says wet conditions at the field will stop the March of Dimes Airlift from taking place tomorrow.
