Nearly 99 graduating senior coeds at the UW Madison earned honors and prizes at the 42nd annual Senior Swingout Saturday afternoon. Mauermann also secured AWS scholarship recognition.

Prank Ends in Marine’s Death as Flagpole Falls
A Smoky Bear prank at Storybook Land led to the death of Cpl. Edward C. Kaltenbach in Washington. The 23 year old from Erie was killed when a 20 foot flagpole toppled, apparently after a metal spade in the bear’s hand punctured his skull. Fellow Marine Cpl. Timothy M. Parsons survived with injuries.

Fire extinguished as car engine blaze damages vehicle
A car owned by George J. Brown at 1517 18th Street suffered engine fire yesterday on 15th avenue in the 2000 block. The Monroe fire department contained the blaze quickly with a fire extinguisher after rugs were used to smother flames before the alarm.
