Schadeberg Plans Sugar River Tour in Monticello Albany Area

Congressman Henry C. Schadeberg announced a tour of the Little Sugar River in the Monticello Albany area on May 28. He will also attend various school functions at St Victor's School the next day, tied to a request for funds to build flood control structures in the area.

Monr oe educators honor retiring Mon roe staff at annual dinner

The Monroe Education Association held its annual dinner at the high school honoring retiring veterans of the Mon roe public school system and recent retirees. T.R. Holyoke John Calder Nat Preston and Frank Luebchow received MEA and board gifts while Miss Lillian Gempeler and Miss Hannah Bindschaedler were belatedly honored. Dr Glen Eye of the UW education department gave the keynote on teaching careers and Sputnik era expectations. The event featured Staccatos music and a gymnasium setting amid Junior Prom decor.

The sheriff served jurisdictional purchase offers on remaining property owners for the Monroe municipal airport site. Fred and Freida Weiss and Ralph and Mary Etta Shaffer receive offers totaling $2,000. John Ruff earlier received $38,996 in January and may appeal. Fred Deppeler Sr. Stricken at Home in Monroe

Fred Deppeler Sr. 85, retired cheesemaker, died suddenly at 8 15 p m in his Monroe home after a recent fall. Born July 16 1876 in Tegerfelden Switzerland he later moved to the United States in 1906 and worked in Monticello and nearby dairy and cheese factories. Slayer Helps Fail Jailbreak in Racine County Jail

An accused slayer Wilson Brook and companion Ernest Bach attempted a jail break on Monday night but were foiled on the ninth floor by Deputy Sheriff Ralph Mainland and Herman Price. Brook, 21, is charged with killing Burlington Police Sgt. Anthony Eilers. Bach, 39, faces an armed robbery count at a Racine shopping center. Both pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

A fierce storm lashed Dixon Sterling Rock Falls with high winds rain and lightning. A mother and three children were rescued from debris after a trailer overturned near Dix. Trees toppled power lines and a radio tower fell while fires erupted at Bemis Motor and other sites.

Fourth Victim Dies After Freeport Hotel Fire

The fourth victim, Henry Dillon 64, died at St Francis hospital after Sunday's Licondo hotel blaze in Freeport.
