Assembly Advances Jobless Pay Increase Extension of Period
The Wisconsin Assembly advanced an agreed bill to raise maximum weekly jobless benefits to 41 dollars and extend the benefit period by seven and a half weeks. It would adjust top benefits twice yearly to about 52 percent of the average weekly wage and permanently extend eligibility from 26 to 34 weeks. The chamber also killed a plan to extend coverage to employers with three or more workers and gave first approval to a bill extending benefits to logging industry workers effective January 1.

N W Bower 84 longtime president of Citizens National Bank of Darlington died at home after a long illness. Born in Grat riot he joined the bank in 1892 after Darlington schools. He married Gertrude McConnell in Chicago on November 6 1913. Preceded by his wife in 1945 he had no immediate survivors. La Crosse Loses Auto-Lite Plant
