Hal McIntyre Dies From Burns in Fire
Band leader Hal McIntyre, 44, died Tuesday from burns suffered in a Hollywood apartment fire. He was found Sunday under a basket on the kitchen floor of his vocalist's apartment after apparently falling asleep while smoking. He began leading a band at 16 and also played saxophone and clarinet with the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

Couple Admits Killing Two Boys in San Diego
A mother Wanda Brogdon and her unemployed friend Kenneth Merriam confessed to police they killed her two sons, 3 year old David Wayne Brogdon and 5 year old Virgil Brogdon Jr., in the Laguna Mountains about 50 miles east of San Diego. Merriam said he strangled the boys at their urging after a night in bars. They drove the bodies to Merriam's sister Margaret Schmitter's home in Spring Valley, where the sheriff was alerted. The couple had traveled from Rockford where they had met. Virgil Brogdon, father of the boys, said he and his wife had been separated a year.
