Richland Unit Joins Monroe Public School System

The Richland school district east of Richland votes to attach to Monroe under state law, effective July 1. The Green County committee approved the petition after a public hearing, with Richland officials noting enrollment 34 and transfer plans for 7th and 8th graders to Monroe.

Bloodmobile Planned for Albany June 8

The Red Cross Bloodmobile returns to Albany for the first time since Green County joined the Badger Regional Blood Program. The unit will operate in Albany High School gym from 2 to 6 p.m. June 8 to meet a 120-donor quota. Delbert Hein leads Brodhead recruitment with Thelma Burt coordinating Albany donors. Dr. Ronaldean Pawlisch chairs the drive for the region.

Dr. Glenn S. Pound to speak at Kiwanis anniversary

Madison's Dr. Glenn S. Pound will address the Monroe Kiwanis 40th anniversary banquet May 17 in the high school M Room and serve as feature speaker at the June 1 commencement. He is a noted plant pathologist and longtime Kiwanis leader with ties to the University of Wisconsin and Kiwanis International.

First U S Astronaut Completes Spectacularly Successful Ride

Navy Lt Cmdr Victor G Prather 34 of Bethesda Maryland and Cmdr Malcolm Ross soared to a record 21 1 2 miles over the Gulf of Mexico in a balloon flight from the USS Antietam. Prather died after a 25 foot fall from a rescuing helicopter while being hoisted from the water. Ross survived uninjured as the balloon drifted toward the carrier and the gondola landed.

Msgr Emmenegger Assigned to Delavan

Msgr Joseph Emmenegger, who spent six years in Rome on the Casa Santa Maria administrative staff, is assigned to St Andrew's in Delavan effective Tuesday. He is visiting his mother in Browntown and other relatives. His Rome office handled American requests for papal audiences.

Shrine KC benefit set for July 23 in Green County

Virginia Beach residents gathered around Mrs. Alan Shepard’s home as she watched her husband depart Cape Canaveral. Col. John Powers told her the mission went well and she described the launch as wonderful to a crowd of reporters and onlookers.
