Bellringer Push for Mental Health Launches in Green County

The first bellringer campaign in Green County, led by the county chapter of the National Mental Health Association, runs through May with funds collected at banks in Monroe Albany Ju ta Brodhead Monticello and New Glarus. An open house at Green County hospital is scheduled for May 22 from 1 30 to 4 p m with Tours led by Amos Johnson and staff.

Hofmann Named By Vacation Unit In Wisconsin

Karl Hofmann of New Glarus was named a director of the Southeast Wisconsin Vacationland Association at a meeting in Indian Ford. Roy Richardson of Janesville was re elected president and praised New Glarus leaders. The group discussed a Wisconsin information center to be funded by federal funds near the Illinois line on I 90, plans for a center north of Janesville were deem ed less valuable, and a Chicago Boat and Travel Show boost was cited with 375000 pieces of literature handed out to 200000 people. The Stay and See Wisconsin contest was announced by the State Chamber of Commerce. Monroe representatives Archie Myers Jr William Bauman attended.

Monroe Chamber Sets May 15 Dues Deadline and Airport Plan

Monroe Chamber of Commerce directors set May 15 as the deadline for membership dues and will mail a list of paid members with a financial statement and events calendar monthly. They backed airport facility improvements and will send a paving and lighting request to the City Council to seek state and federal funds by July 1 for a $48,000 project.

Niffenegger Named Third District American Legion Commander

Edward L. Niffenegger Jr. of Monroe was elected Third District Commander at Lancaster in a Sunday session. He has led Monroe post 84 and Green County Volture 1121 in the 40 and 8, guiding 6300 legionnaires across seven counties Crawford Richland Grant Iowa Dane Lafayette and Green. Niffenegger held multiple Americanism roles and served on national committees, earning district honors while Monroe post achieved its best year. He is saluted by George Williams Jake Schurman and State Sen. Gordon Roseleip for service to Wisconsin veterans.

Blackhawk Downs Harness Track Planned in Rockton

Rockton Illinois plans for a new harness racing track called Blackhawk Downs. Del Insko, president of the corporation, says a 3500 nightly crowd is projected for a 60 day season starting after Memorial Day with stables for 500 horses and quarters for 150 attendants.

Free Music Recital Slated for Tomorrow

A free concert by select members of the Monroe High School Symphonic Band will be held tomorrow at 8 p.m. in the Little Theater of Monroe High School. The solo ensemble recital is part of National Music Week with Allan F. Barnard and Vance Nelson directing the music program.
