In Green County the tornado's scars linger three weeks on with shattered glass and uprooted trees. Residents recall rescue efforts and ongoing cleanup while the community expresses deep gratitude for aid and support received.

Fred Reber district SCS supervisor will be the keynote at the Richland Creek Watershed Association tenth anniversary banquet at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Junior High School cafeteria. Over 200 tickets sold. The event features talks and slides by local officials and educators.
Grass fires believed started by sparks from passing trains damaged land in two Wisconsin areas. A blaze between Milton Junction and Janesville burned woodland and damaged a stock of 1,000 young evergreen trees on the Floyd Yeomans farm. Firemen Ivan Rice and Stanley Hergert suffered minor burns. Another series along the Milwaukee Road right of way from Brookfield to Oconomowoc charred utility poles over 20 miles with limited other damage. Fire detachments from Brookfield, Pewaukee, Delafield, Chenequa, Hartland and Oconomowoc fought the flames.
Alamedan Angelo L. Galli spotted a girl floundering in a lagoon near the bay and called police. He rushed to the scene, pulled Sydney Houghton 12 from the water and administered artificial respiration until officers arrived, earning praise for saving her life.
Five area high school juniors named as Badger Boy and Girl State delegates by the Monroe Zilmer Riley American Legion Post and Auxiliary. Swiggum Sullivan and Wirth will be sponsored by the Legion. Schreier and Ernst by the Auxiliary. Events run June 12 to 18 with the boys at Ripon College and girls at the University of Wisconsin campus.
A Milwaukee man claimed responsibility for planting bombs in the Wisconsin State Capitol. Police searched the building Friday night but found nothing unusual. The man was taken back to Milwaukee and held.
Ten young women from the area enter Wisconsin's Alice In Dairyland competition. Region two entrants from Green, Rock, Dane and Columbia counties compete May 15 at Columbus, with two finalists advancing to Sun Prairie for finals June 24. Beth Bartosh of Burlington is the 1964 winner.
Lorri Heins nine months old, daughter of Mr and Mrs Hubert Heins of Belmont, died after a one car crash on Lafayette County Highway X near Belmont. Her mother, 25, was seriously injured with internal injuries, fractured ribs, and a concussion and is in Cuba City Medical Center. Lorri died at a Madison hospital after the crash when the car struck a cement abutment while avoiding a dog crossing the road.
Two Monroe High School seniors are honored for business education achievements. Karen Keister named outstanding business education student by the department and Madison Chapter of Administrative Management Society. Jean Blurn named 1965 Career Girl by Monroe Business and Professional Woman's Club.
Pope Paul VI urged workers on May Day to pray for and assist the unemployed underemployed and underpaid while stressing aid for those in insecure jobs and living costs. The message framed labor concerns within a spiritual call to solidarity.
Bob Bucky Buchholtz, champion basketball player and all tournament selection, announces enrollment at Whitewater State University this fall on a renewable Legislative Scholarship. He plans business education and teaching. He is son of Rodney and wife, and joins fellow state champ Tom Mitchell, son of Lee and wife, enrolling at Wisconsin.
Tears and laughter marked a morning farewell at Monroe High School as Wyandotte exchange students prepared to depart by bus after a week of activities. The group shared photos and plans for future visits following a hayride, barn dance, jail tour, and a tree planting ceremony with Monroe students and parents expressing sadness at the goodbyes.
Clarissa Carter a five year old girl on a skateboard darted from between parked cars into the path of a police car rushing to a bomb report near Central Park causing a fatal accident. The bomb scare was unfounded and witnesses described the incident on west 65th Street. The event comes after a warning from the Greater New York Safety Council urging parents to supervise children riding skateboards.
Berlin police dispersed a May Day clash near the Reichstag as about 50 Communist demonstrators faced labor union men. The confrontation occurred outside the old German parliament building with authorities intervening to restore order.
A State Department update shows 27 U S casualties in Santo Domingo as of 9 30 a m EST with two killed and 19 wounded among U S forces including eight wounded in the Army. Medical aid is stepped up with airlifted field hospital units and Navy surgical team en route. Rebels admit split command while U S Embassy area sees ongoing fighting and a 5 30 p m Friday cease fire. The Tass report accuses U S of armed intervention and imperialism. President Johnson notes external training signals in the Dominican rebel movement.
Floodwaters breached a levee north of Hannibal and Quincy Illinois, flooding about 7,700 acres of farmland and adding to 10,500 acres already submerged after an earlier break. Residents evacuated, with no casualties reported, as the break aimed to relieve pressure on Hannibal. A crest was anticipated Sunday along the Mississippi River.
President Johnson signed a 2.2 billion supplemental appropriation bill into law on Friday and said the action would ensure welfare checks reach hundreds of thousands of Americans.
