A sharp quake in western Turkey killed at least 24 and damaged several villages around Gediz where rescue teams were still clearing victims of last Saturday’s disaster. Officials say the 24 dead figure is preliminary.
Police seized 59 sticks of dynamite, explosive liquid, weapons and ammunition in a North Side Chicago apartment. Bomb experts warned detonation could have destroyed the three story building and nearby homes. Officers also found Communist literature and pamphlets detailing bomb making and guerrilla warfare.

First Lt. James B. Duffy, 23, of Claremont California, was sentenced by a military court in Long Binh to six months confinement and a $1500 fine for the death of a Vietnamese prisoner of war. He was originally found guilty of premeditated murder, but the verdict was reconsidered after it carried a mandatory life sentence. He was later convicted of involuntary manslaughter and conspiracy to commit manslaughter.
Laotian government troops recaptured the Sam Thong base abandoned to the North Vietnamese on March 18. The government urged refugees to return to the nearly deserted town in a valley 90 miles north of Vientiane, though sources warned the situation remained precarious.

Fred Boesiger a Monroe cheese business leader and longtime Triangle Cheese Co. associate died at 3 25 a m Tuesday March 31 at St Clare Hospital after a lingering illness He was 77 born April 3 1892 in Bern Switzerland came to Monroe in 1920 and helped form the first Swiss yodel quartet in 1920 He had served as director of the Monroe Harmonie Club and was married to Martha Masshardt in 1920 Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery services set for Friday April 3 at St Johns Church He is survived by his widow a daughter a sister two brothers and two granddaughters plus relatives in Switzerland.
