Grass Blazes Prompt Fire Department Warnings
Fire Chief Josef J. Benkert urged extreme caution as two grass fires were reported within 35 minutes this morning. The first at Glen D. Flannery’s farm north of the Junction House on County Trunk J and the second near the Speed Bowl on Highway 59 two miles northeast of Monroe. A tanker was re-routed to speed bowl as all rural fire equipment went to duty.

Mrs. M M Skyrud 80 of 1814 7th street died 6 45 p m yesterday in a Monroe hospital from old age complications. Born April 13 1877 in Taylor Wis she was married Jan 1 1902 at Blair to Mads M Skyrud. Surviving are husband five children six grandchildren two great grandchildren and two sisters. Burial in Blair Zion Lutheran church cemetery following Grace Lutheran services. Rev C C Warfel to officiate.

Musical Moments Concert At Monroe High Tomorrow
Allan F. Barnard announces the band and orchestra concert postponed by measles will be held tomorrow at 8 PM in the high school auditorium. The 54 piece orchestra and 93 piece senior band perform five numbers each with seniors featured in the 70 minute program. Thirty six members will receive letter awards as six seniors, 15 juniors and 15 sophomores take the stage.

Tschudy Moves to New Location on 17th Avenue
Tschudy's Specialty Service began moving operations Saturday and plans to open tomorrow morning in the former Haworth Furniture Co. building at 912 17th Avenue. Owner Robert E. Tschudy signed a five year lease on quarters owned by the Odd Fellows. Expansion will include the dairying equipment and appliance line. The former 1504 10th Street site will host the Gempler Fire Company. Harold Haworth, Harold Snyder, and Lowell Markwardt formed Drapery House Inc. January 1 and moved fixtures to the Drapery House site on the square, with remodeling and expansion planned that will affect the former Charm Center quarters.

Monticello Highway Route Hinges On Aerial Survey
The proposed State Highway 69 improvement from Monticello to north of New Glarus Woods State Park remains tentative awaiting an aerial survey. J C Jones district highway engineer said photos of the wide corridor are being taken to help locate the new alignment. He notes a west bypass of Monticello may start at STH 69 and County Trunk C with a route near the current pavement and east of it through the woods. Further map results could prompt alignment changes.
