Berhardt Stricker 70 of Brodhead died early today at St. Clare hospital after a brief illness. Born May 19, 1881 in Edgerton to Albert and Bertha Hanzelicker, he never married. Survived by a half brother Frank in Center and a sister in California. Funeral arrangements handled by Everson funeral home Brodhead.
Senator Estes Kefauver stated that if elected President he would be willing to meet Joseph Stalin anywhere in the world provided there was a genuine opportunity for a settlement with Russia. He emphasized the aim of reducing tensions and improving relations between the United States and the Soviet Union.
Emmett J. Norton won the Lincoln school ninth grade mock mayoral vote with 41 while Brooks J. Dinwiddie had 25. In the Republican presidential contest Taft led Stassen 36 to 23 with Warren 8, Ritter 9, Stearns 1. Kefauver topped Democrats with 43. City races saw Keel 51 for re election assessor, Hodgson 15, Gempeler 62 for city treasurer. Galli led in First Ward 19 to 3 for Holtshopple. Schindler 5 and Lamboley 6 in Second Ward. Laeser 12 to 3 for Smith in Third Ward. Elmer unopposed with 21 in Fourth Ward. Murphy beat Broadfoot 72-53 for state supreme court justice.
County highways on the trunk system were posted for 12,000 pound loads by highway commissioner N. C. Jensen. Extreme heat and recent rain have worsened breakups and softened road beds. Highway 39 from the Smiley school near Albany to Monticello draws attention for potential holes. postings may follow before spring breakups end.

John Meisser of Winslow died at 3 30 a m yesterday at St Clare hospital after medical treatment since Thursday He was born November 29 1883 in Alma Wisconsin son of the late John and Mrs Meisser He married Martha Payne June 13 1906 at Prairie du Sac She died in 1935 Surviving are a daughter Mrs Frederick Karlen Jr a brother Marvin Moore Montana a sister Florence San Francisco and a granddaughter Martha Karlen Winslow Funeral services will be at Cardascio funeral home Winslow at 1 pm tomorrow with Rev Paul C Kehle of Monroe officiating Graveside services will follow at Prairie du Sac cemetery

The Racine school janitors end a week long strike after winning a 46 hour maximum work week. They will restart the school boilers today and classes may return to normal tomorrow.

Former U S Senator Wallace H. White Jr. died in his sleep at age 74 in Auburn Maine. White was a communications and shipping expert and served as majority leader in the Republican controlled 80th Congress.
