A two year old, Merlin Dennis Gilbertson, died after his clothing caught fire from a heating stove at the John Grossen farm two miles northeast of Argyle Green County. The accident occurred between 8 and 8:15 am while his father moved older siblings to school. Coroner Herman A. Stuessy ruled it an accidental fire with no inquest.
