AP dispatch notes that Ataka and Co. telegrammed the U.S. State Department about the supersonic transport at the request of an unnamed U.S. concern. An Ataka official could not explain the American party's motive or why the message was sent before the Senate rejected more SST funding.
Masked raiders with shotguns ambushed an armored money truck in London on Friday and fled in a high powered car with over a million dollars in cash. They abandoned 10000 in coins, described as Britain’s largest cash haul since the Great Train Robbery of 1963. Police noted no forced entry on the yellow security truck.
A House panel heard that disjointed efforts by groups aiming to free American prisoners in Indochina caused wasted work and duplication, signaling a need for better coordination and unity among supporters.
Two youths were freed after separate abductions. Michael J. Register, 11, held nearly 20 hours in Macon Georgia as his parents paid a $5,000 ransom. Richard E. He said no preconditions require Israel to leave occupied areas before talks, and a joint U.S. Soviet peacekeeping force would need Israel and Egypt approval. A capacity Monroe crowd enjoyed the annual Modern Minstrel Show by the Monroe Lions Club and Monroe City Band. Highlights included Hee-Haw Boys and vocalists Ben Blaser, Tom Peterson, Lloyd Siedschlag, and William Rollins with a mix of light and serious numbers. Mrs Allan Barnard earned mid show praise for directing the 13th year and Steve Rosa received special notice for drums. The show runs again Saturday at 8 and Sunday at 2, a staple since 1956.
South Vietnam rushed reinforcements to the northern front as allied commands noted a DMZ buildup of North Vietnamese troops and long range artillery. U S fighter bombers hit a new surface to air missile site in the Laotian panhandle near the DMZ and artillery duels were reported across the zone.
