Highway 11 bids open March 29 in two counties
The state highway commission will open bids March 29 for a $1 million Highway 11 project spanning Green and Lafayette Counties. It is the largest of 14 road jobs across more than a dozen counties, including paving, grading, resurfacing and bridge work. The plan extends Browntown road from Monroe to Browntown and covers 0.58 miles in Green County and 10.65 miles in Lafayette County.

December Swiss cheese milk price and factory rates drop

Two area youths held in county jail since February on thefts and other charges were sentenced by Judge Marshall L. Peterson. Eugene Stampfli, 19, now of Freeport, was ordered to two to three years in the Green Bay state reformatory, parole to welfare and to Sheriff Humbel. Donald L. Stewart, 22, of Spring Grove, was committed to the Central State hospital for the criminally insane. Stampfli is connected with at least 34 violations, including stealing 80 pigs from five farms and multiple vandalism acts.
