First National Bank Receives JFK Half Dollar Shipment
One thousand John F. Kennedy half dollars arrived today at the First National Bank of Monroe in a Treasury backed shipment. L. J. Schroeder announced the first supply is limited to two per customer while minting continues through the year with about 65 million coins planned for production.

Wallace Ends Visit with Silent St Norbert Rally

NEW YORK and steels and savings and loan holding companies were strong in a recovery stock market this afternoon. Trading was active. Gains of key stocks ranged from fractions to a point or more. A wide assortment of losers appeared. The market was hesitant and mixed early, then gradually moved ahead as buying crept in after three days of correction. Monroe Native Mrs Crippen Dies at 106 in Waterloo
Funeral services were held for Minnie Mary Crippen a Waterloo pioneer in welfare work and the citys oldest resident who died at age 106. Born January 5 1858 she returned from Chicago to marry Dr John H Crippen who died in 1911. A founder of Silent Ministry the forerunner of Family Service League she held many civic roles and left no immediate survivors. Services were at First Congregational Church Waterloo with burial in Elmwood Cemetery.

Voters away from Monroe must apply by 5 p.m. Friday April 3 by sending name and address to City Clerk Freda M Bray at City Hall. A ballot will be mailed back and filled in secretly in a special envelope, signed in the clerk’s or a notary’s presence. Mrs Bray adds the office will be open 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday April 4 for those anticipating absence on election day. Registered voters rose by 26 during a two hour City Hall session last night.

Monroe Youth Admits Break-in at Bernie's Drive-in
A Monroe youth admitted breaking into Bernie's Drive-in at 1331 19th Street. He confessed to entering early March 16, stealing $25 from the cash register while an estimated $100 was missing per owner Howard Kohn. Police say he unlocked a window, removed a screen, found a key, and locked the drawer before patrol noticed the broken screen. The youth spent all the money, and authorities turned him over to juvenile authorities.
