French Class Plans Easter Trip to Canada

In Monroe High School, 14 French IV students plus instructor Larry Larson and others will take a 9 day Easter break trip to French Canada. Funds raised through dances bake sales baby­sitting and a World Without Sun film plus $200 gifts from Kiwanis and Lions push the plan toward departure on Easter Sunday.

Fire at Brugger Farm Burns Hog Shed In Rural Monroe

A hog shed on John Brugger’s farm near Monroe caught fire shortly after 9 p m causing the loss of about six pigs and feed. Firefighters from Monroe and Albany contained the blaze within 15 minutes, keeping the barn and other buildings safe. The cause is under investigation with officials noting the fire likely started in the upper feed area near a bottle gas heater. Brugger reported milking 125 cows and about 5 900 pounds of milk daily. he denied NFO involvement, though he noted past picketing and a milk truck incident on the farm.

New Editor Named For Daily Cardinal

A 19 year old sophomore from Richmond Virginia was named Tuesday night editor in chief of the Daily Cardinal at the University of Wisconsin. Joel Brenner joined the paper in December and has served as reporter and editorial coordinator. He succeeds Eileen Alt of Milwaukee who resigned three weeks ago due to poor health. The paper had drawn criticism from legislators over articles on sex and a four letter word.

Toning Change Okayed by 4-2: Station Planned

The City Council ended the emergency status from the Palm Sunday tornado two years past and approved a zoning change to allow Kundert Oil Co to build a new service station at 7th Ave and 21st St. The vote was 4 to 2 with four aldermen approving, and two absent. Mayor Ekum reported total tornado costs of 153667.57 with 102820.40 recovered.
