Two Children Die in Menominee Fire Tragedy
On the Menominee Indian Reservation a blaze claimed two young lives in a small frame home. Victims were Winifred Peters, age 2, and her 4-month-old brother Roger Jr. The father struggled to rescue them as flames engulfed the residence.

66 Die in Crash Of Naval Plane On Hawaii Ridge
A U S Navy transport RD-6 with 66 aboard crashed into a ridge at the Laulaulei depot on Oahu. All aboard died. The plane, four-engine, had taken off from Hickam Field and was en route to Travis AFB when radio trouble prompted a return. The wreck sparked a long fire as rescuers reported a red sky and a thunderclap-like explosion. Passengers included 20 Air Force personnel, 16 Navy, 19 Army and two civilian dependents.
