Eight Die in Wreck on Rockton Road Near Monticello
A head on collision on Illinois Route 1 near Rockton at the Wagon Wheel Restaurant site killed eight people. Robert Rinehart, 37, Rockford, his wife Patricia and their two children, plus Raymond Rinehart, John Recoy, Edna Taylor, and an unidentified middle aged woman died. Willis Spring, 29, Monticello, escaped injury and was released after questioning. Spring said his truck, headed south, struck the car rounding a curve at about 35 mph. six died instantly, two later at Beloit hospital. The car burst into flames. authorities say the site has long seen accidents. Spring drove a Badger Petroleum Co. truck from McFarland.

Dairy farmer Carl Dommer found 19 purebred Holsteins dead after a lightning strike at his Colby barn. Of 30 cows, only 11 survived. the loss is valued at about $5,000. Dommer reported the discovery while checking the herd for milking.

Five in Family Hurt In Traffic Accident
Albany special reports Mrs William Carpenter of Fond du Lac County and her family were hospitalized in Fond du Lac after a collision while returning from Appleton. Father and son suffered pelvic fractures, Mrs Carpenter broke an arm and eye injuries, two children discharged, five others injured but not seriously. The caravan was pulled from a blazing station wagon after a side swipe collision with another vehicle.

Station Damaged in Crash Hits Pumps and Cars
Damage estimated between $2,000 and $2,500 occurred yesterday at 4 p m when cars driven by Mrs. Rodney O Kittelsen and Charles A Stubbe collided at 6th street and 20th avenue. Three gasoline pumps at the Burkhard Share station were sheared off as the Stubbe machine struck the island. The Kittelsen car struck a post and swerved into a garden behind the Eugene Zoller residence. The Kittelsens fled to 6th street residence to Edward C Einbeck while Stubbe, uninjured, declined ambulance aid. The three pumps owned by Mrs V A Stauffacher and leased to Burkhard and Share were a total loss. James Kittelsen, 4, complained of pain but was not found injured.
