More than 1,000 people are expected at Turner hall Wednesday for Farmers Night observance by the Chamber of Commerce. The program includes the Madcap Minstrel Show by Lions Club and City Band, a 7:30 band concert, and a 1 hour 40 minute show.
Authorities probe a murder at a looted cabin on Sturgeon Bay’s edge where Donald Cross was found dead with his dog. Sheriff Gleasner reports both were shot in the head, no weapon or shells found, and relatives say he might have $10,000 in bonds and up to $500 cash.
Wisconsin Rapids reports its first pedestrian fatality in eight years as five year old Robert Trudeau son of Mr and Mrs Alfred Trudeau is fatally struck by a car while crossing near his home on Friday night.
Judge Marshall L. Peterson county Brotherhood Week chairman commends 20 county contest winners. Winners received prizes at the Courthouse with Goetz Theaters passes. Awards include 11 grade school winners with first place Dennis Goecks and Florence Zastrow in high school, plus ties and firsts in New Glarus and junior high divisions.
Rome backed West German rearmament as the Senate approved the Paris accords by 139 to 82 after two weeks of debate and Red street clashes. Police dispersed protests. more than 500 detainees were held, including Communist Deputy Carlos Capponi who was released after identity verification. Premier Scelba secured a strong Senate win.
Nine Juda high school students will compete in the league forensic contest at Orfordville next Tuesday after winning a Juda school elimination contest Tuesday night. Contestants include Hazel t ine, Erb, Carter, Hasse, Feldt, Miller, Ruef, Zentner, and Kundert with Miss Mary Preston of Brodhead judging and Barbara Pautz as Juda forensics coach.
J Kenneth Carr, long time head of Camp American Legion near Lake Tomahawk since 1940, stepped down without giving a reason. An official confirmed the resignation and noted no motive was provided.
Prime Minister Nehru avoided injury when a knife wielding rickshaw puller jumped onto his open car near Nagpur. Police detained Basu Rao aged 32 and an unnamed accomplice. Nehru dismissed the incident as insignificant and a cranky act. He remained unharmed and later spoke at a legislators’ meeting.
Stanley Everson, dairy inspector for the State Department of Agriculture based in Green Bay and Rock County, is promoted to dairy inspection supervisor for the northeastern section. He will be headquartered in Appleton, with the family living in Brodhead. He fills the vacancy created by Joseph Wetak's retirement in Green Bay. Everson has served the area for five years, succeeding A J Reppen of Monroe, who died February 2, 1950. He is a licensed cheese and buttermaker and was cheese-making in Sun Prairie when he joined the state on March 1, 1950.

In long hay John Schreck and Laverne Sopher placed first and second. in chopped hay Karl Bollerud and Walton Campbell. in corn silage John Zurfluh Jr. and Walter C. Wood. in grass silage Ed J. Kaderly and Earl Pinnow.
Madison Gov Kohler insists on a package: he will not sign any fuel tax increase unless the Legislature also approves measures for a state traffic patrol and higher driver license renewal fees to fund state examinations for new drivers. The plan includes a two cent gas tax increase, a diesel tax boost, and a $1 license renewal every two years.
A nationwide alert is issued for Eugene Salzman 21 after Emil and Clara Salzman were slain in Hayward Wisconsin area. Police traced an auto stolen from the couple and linked it to a St Paul incident as investigators seek the gunman and motive while clues point to a rifle ambush and a fleeing car.
The fifth 1955 atomic test at Yucca Flat near Las Vegas occurred at 5:20 a.m. on a 300 foot tower. Observers in Las Vegas 75 miles away saw a brief white flash, which reddened, with a white cloud rising over the site. The Army Chemical Corps tested a smoke screen to reduce heat radiation. Officials said smoke screens do not shield from blast or pressure waves or gamma radiation, but could protect certain areas. The blast registered as a “baby” in size and was not felt in Las Vegas. Salt Lake City observers called the flash weak and fleeting.
Construction of a 155000 addition to Juda high school progresses with Theodore J Molzahn and Sons as contractors. The new four unit wing will provide a 500 seat gymnasium with balcony seating, classrooms and workshops, an agriculture classroom and lab, soil and milk testing facilities, and an economics home room. Completion target is by August 1, with work beginning November 1.
Eugene William Buff, 33, released from Nebraska penitentiary, admitted holding up the Commercial State Bank of Afton, Iowa, and stealing about 25,000 dollars. He forced cashier R. M. Crandall and three employees into the vault, was captured seven hours later in Missouri while driving a stolen car. Most of the money was recovered.
A builders forum will be featured at the Lions Club meeting Monday at 6 30 p m in the Swiss Wheel restaurant. A question and answer session with members follows the discussion. J. B. Scherer head of the Sky watch program of Civil Defense in Monroe announced a flyover training exercise in spotting planes for the Chicago Filter Center. The exercise, ordered by the Eastern Air Defense Force headquarters, began at 7 a m and will end at 7 p m today.
In Birmingham ex-Chief Deputy Sheriff Albert Fuller received a life prison term after a 25 day trial for the murder of A. L. Patterson, a Democratic nominee for attorney general. Prosecutor Deason signaled Arch Ferrell will be tried in about two weeks, while defense attorney Beddow prepared an appeal and motion for a new trial.

A seven year old Belleville boy Richard Grossen son of Mr and Mrs Robert Grossen is a leukemia patient in St Clare hospital since February 18. He is receiving daily blood transfusions and would be greatly cheered by greeting cards from the public.
Dairyland Bus Co of Monroe received final authorization from the Public Service Commission to discontinue service between Monroe Janesville and Beloit. The line had already ceased operations Jan 21 due to lack of patronage after a PSC hearing Feb 11 in the Courthouse. Final PSC approval was announced in Madison.
