Police say a 6 year old high school junior fired dozens of rifle rounds at cars along Route 410, wounding three people and killing himself in a throat shot. Deputies and troopers blocked traffic for hours as they investigated. The motive remained unknown.
Police and prosecutors filed riot and murder charges against 87 motorcycle gang members after a Saturday night clash in Cleveland between the Breed and Hell's Angels left five dead and 23 injured, including three icemen. The battle drew 150 to 200 Breed members and 30 from the rival group.
Xuan Thuy, Hanoi's chief negotiator at the Vietnam peace talks, told an American peace group that he had secretly met with U.S. Ambassador David Bruce in futile efforts to secure a date for U.S. withdrawal from Vietnam. He met for three hours with 171 Americans from 41 states who traveled to Paris under the American Friends Service Committee and the Fellowship for Reconciliation.

State Climatologist Hans Rosendal reports Wisconsin sustained at least one million dollars in damage from twenty eight tornadoes last year. A December 1 twister between Medina and Seymour in Outagamie County caused about five hundred thousand dollars, and April 22 saw five tornadoes in Door Kewaunee and Brown counties.

Sunday March 7 120 a m Marcia Fry 19 Beloit had a blowout on State Highway 1181 southeast of Brodhead, car veered into a ditch and damaged roadway build, heavy damage but no injuries.
U S warplanes pounded the Ho Chi Minh trail as a five week old allied Laos air and ground campaign continued. U S and South Vietnamese forces reported heavy air strikes, losses on both sides, and numerous helicopter crashes with dozens killed or wounded.

Marcia Eyes Van Wart, 101, of Evansville area, died Saturday March 6 at New Glarus Home where she resided since 1969. She was born Nov 7 1869, taught in rural schools, linked to Evansville history through her husband Charles VanWart, and was a lifelong Green County resident active in the Order of Eastern Star.
