Chamber directors discussed Coupon Days to be promoted in The Monroe Evening Times with reduced prices on Friday and Saturday. Bruce Reichert touted consumer savings and shop interest while tourism plans included an I 90 tourist center near Beloit with Swiss design and other centers statewide. The meeting also noted Green County Historical Society bylaws change and a bikeway proposal to Green County Board.

Massed Choir Festival Set by Monroe Churches Sunday

Choral groups from eight area churches will participate in Monroe First Interdenominational Choir Festival at 4 p.m. Sunday in St Victor's Auditorium. Youth choirs from third grade up will join in a mass hymn sing. The Monroe Woman's Club sponsors the event and its music department coordinates plans.

Teens to present Monroe youth needs report Thursday

A group of teen agers will submit a report on Monroe youth needs at 7 30 p m Thursday in the Civic Room of the new Municipal Building. Dorothy Meythaler says Civic leaders from City Hall Chamber of Commerce and civic groups are invited. Ronald and Daryl Disch plan a remodeled recreation site across from the proposed parking ramp with reception dining and games and hope to attend the meeting to hear the youths report. Open ing of the site is planned as soon as remodeling ends.

Br Jacques of the Taize Community in France spoke at the Green County Ministerial Association gathering in Albany Baptist Church yesterday morning. Twelve members attended and a noon luncheon followed. The next meeting during Holy Week will be a Prayer Retreat at St Johns United Church of Christ on April 4.

Brodhead council approves zoning plan and emergency fire truck rule

The Brodhead City Council adopted a state recommended zoning ordinance after reviewing two options and will appoint a building inspector and a five member Board of Appeals. They declared a state of emergency allowing the fire department to order a new fire truck without bids. They set plans for traffic, mobile home license fees, and police car bids, and granted two operators licenses.

Buchanan Blizzard Strands 100 Residents in Cabin Fever Ordeal

In Buchanan North Dakota a hundred residents endured a days long blizzard that cut power for 24 hours and created dangerous drifts. Ralph Cebula and family survived by improvised heat using rubbing alcohol fires as Alvin Schumaker and Clayton Snitker chased down the outage on a 40 foot pole. Walter Riker sheltered three days in a snow filled trailer before electric heat and power returned.

Meeting Set For 8 Tonight In Courthouse

Green County supervisors meet at 8 p m in Monroe Courthouse to decide on funding signs and a brochure for the nation s first cross state Bikeway plan. The board will vote on a 200 to 500 dollar appropriation as Green County pushes to join the nine county route from Kenosha to La Crosse and connect with Illinois through Monroe.

PTA Convention Set Dr Samp To Talk Here Next Tuesday

The Monroe PTA Council plans a city wide appearance by Dr Robert J Samp at 8 p m on March 15 in the Junior High School Auditorium for the program Face Up Speak Up Shape Up The Junior High School PTA hosts the event. The council also announced Delos Barrett as nominating chair and named committee members for officer slate. Plans include an elementary and junior high school photo project and a cultural development meeting for March 21 in the Junior High Library. The Jayettes offered 50 to support cultural programs in Monroe next year. The council will send two delegates to the state PTA convention in Milwaukee April 27 28 and support bills to make the federal school milk program permanent amid proposed cuts.
