Voters face a statewide primary for two seats on the Wisconsin Supreme Court with incumbents Justice George Currie and Judge Obert Hansen leading bids. Challenger Harry Halloway runs as underdog. outcome determines two finalists for the April 4 election. Polls open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. statewide. about 20,000 election workers needed. Currie retired at 70 after 1964 appointment, Hansen a veteran circuit judge. Halloway seeks ninth bid for office.

Last Rites Held for Rockford Cousins

Ron ald Johnson and Wayne Mullendere, both 14, were gunned down in an apparent execution. Their bodies lay in twin silver caskets as crowds gathered at a Rockford funeral home. Police cited an anonymous phone tip as the chief clue in the slayings at Levings Park.

Monroe Woman's Club to stage Shakespeare comedy

A Monroe Woman's Club unit plans a March meeting program at St. John's United Church of Christ. The one act comedy When Shakespeare's Ladies Meet will be performed in Fellowship Hall with cast members listed. Directors and club officers are named, a business meeting precedes the program, a nominating committee will form, and a tea and decorations plan accompany the event. The group also discusses art contest results and funding for attendees to the Governor's Conference on Youth in Madison.

Blackouts Hit Local Businesses In Antenna-Related Outage

An antenna fell into a transformer causing scattered outages across the area. Kroger and The Waffle Shop reported power loss from about 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Crystal Tower suffered 15 minutes of outage, Swiss Colony Inn about 20 minutes, with candle lighting and hand crank cash registers until power returned.

Fred Affolter Stricken at 80

Fred Affolter 80 of 702 22nd Ave died at 12 45 pm yesterday in St Clare Hospital after a two year illness. Born in Seeberg Canton Bern Switzerland he came to America in 1914 settling in Juda then Monroe. Surviving are his widow 12 children and three sons. He was a cheesemaker for 23 years and a member of St Johns United Church of Christ. They would have observed their 59th wedding anniversary in May.

Wautoma man arraigned on four counts of murder

A 25 year old man McBair was arraigned on four counts of first degree murder for the slaying of his estranged wife, her sister, her father, and a baby sitter at a Fish Lake cottage. Two children survived. He was ordered held without bond.

Nelson Eddy Dies at 66 in Miami Nightclub

Famed tenor Nelson Eddy collapsed during a Miami Beach show and died hours later at Mount Sinai Hospital. He had promised to sing until he dropped and recently toured Australia with partner Gale Sherwood. Eddy, known for eight films with Jeanette MacDonald, suffered what hospital officials described as a stroke.

Casper Schild 81 of 524 20th Ave. Monroe Township former supervisor and Farm Bureau director died at 3:05 p.m. yesterday in St. Clare Hospital after months of illness from malignancy. Born in Canton Bern Switzerland Feb 28 1886 he came to America in 1902 settled in Pennsylvania. He moved to Monroe in 1948 and married Elisa Wenger Jan 24 1918. Surviving are two daughters Mrs George Busjahn Route 2 Monroe Mrs Kenneth Sonnenberg Route 2 Belleville and a son Walter E Woodford.
