Bees boost crop value in Wisconsin study

UW specialist Floyd E. Moeller reports a pickle crop near Wautoma more than tripled in value when 25 bee colonies pollinated cucumber plants. In a cranberry test area, bee exclusion and inclusion yielded 42.5, 177, and 189 barrels per acre respectively, showing bees significantly affect yields.

POWs Greeted at Clark Air Base After Hanoi Release

The Viet Cong freed 34 prisoners of war in Hanoi and they landed at Clark Air Base Philippines for a red carpet welcome led by President Marcos. Among the freed were 27 American servicemen two American civilians two West German medical workers and two Filipino VOA employees. The group also included Monika Schwinn the only foreign woman held. They join 106 airmen freed Sunday as the cease fire nears a March 28 deadline for releasing all Americans held. The welcome included U.S. Ambassador Byroade Admiral Gaylor and Lt. Gen. Moore Jr. The arriving POWs celebrated with steak eggs and ice cream at Clark Field hospital and held a brief service in the Red Cross lounge.

Several injured in bus-3 car accident

A four-vehicle crash involving a Belleville School bus occurred on Wis 69-39 near New Glarus at 2 19 p m Saturday. Authorities reported multiple injuries with details pending while debris and various car impacts were recorded along with several other minor crashes in the region.

Injured woman in two car Wis. 11 crash near Orfordville

Mrs Merlin Maveus, 29, of Monroe, was hospitalized with head and hand cuts after a two car crash on Wis 11 near Orfordville in Rock County. Her husband and two children were treated and released. Mrs Donald Bliss of Brodhead also treated and released. Both cars sustained extensive damage.

Todd Finley ten son of Mr and Mrs Tony Finley of Juda escaped serious injury when an endloader operated by his father hit him in downtown Juda Sunday afternoon. He was checked at St Clare Hospital and returned home.

Two Spanish airliners collide near Nantes injuring many

Two London bound Spanish airliners collide in flight near Nantes France. One Iberia DC9 crashes killing at least 53. the other Spantex Coronado lands at Cognac military base with passengers evacuated. Aircraft carried about 265 total passengers. French air routes were controlled by the military after a two week strike.
