Madison AP GOP Senate Majority Leader Raymond Johnson suggested Lucey’s proposal to close Green Bay Reformatory Central State Hospital and Wisconsin Child Center may be politically motivated since all are in districts of GOP senators. He warned it was too early to tell and predicted the legislature would reject the closings. Johnson also questioned UW regents proposals to close two-year campuses and floated welfare reform ideas including public release of recipient data and a welfare council replacing the Board of Health and Social Services.
