Monroe High School Sends 30 for Far East Coast Exchange Trip

Thirty Monroe High School exchange students, 15 girls and 15 boys, will depart March 13 for a visit to Alexis I duPont High in Wilmington Delaware and return via Columbus Wheeling and Washington DC The trip is led by Mrs Lenore Ainsworth and Fred Simpson with sponsors Ms Nellie Barkley and Edward Keating The group plans to present a signed picture gift from Monroe to DuPont High.

First Astronauts Transfer From Command Ship to Lunar Module

SPACE CENTER Houston AP Schweickart and McDivitt became the first Americans to transfer from the Apollo 9 command ship to the lunar module in a weightless 39 inch passage. They planned three days of tests to determine if two Americans can land on the moon in July. Schweickart entered the LEM first and activated its life support and systems.

Open House Planned at New Glarus Bakery

The New Glarus Bakery plans an open house March 7-8 to honor the Matzinger family legacy spanning five decades of local baking. Bloodmobile effort surpasses Monroe quota

Monroe residents donated 143 pints at a Bloodmobile visit in Turner Hall, exceeding a 140 pint goal. The event drew 65 volunteers with 22 unable to donate. officials thanked The Monroe Evening Times and WEKZ for publicity and noted a donor list will be issued soon.

The world’s largest warship the Enterprise sails again two months after a deadly fire and explosion that killed 28 sailors and injured 85 at sea near Honolulu.

Fiesta rodeo crowds mark world’s longest parade

The Fiesta de los Vaqueros rodeo in Tucson drew an estimated 155000 spectators for a four day event ending Sunday March 2. The parade featured 447 units with 5749 people and 1262 horses. Grand entries included Chief Geronimo Kuble carrying the flag and rodeo princess Barbara Bell, a UW Wisconsin student.
