Wisconsin lawmakers spent an hour arguing whether to place an advisory April ballot item on four year terms for five constitutional officers. The measure won 55 to 38 in the Assembly but failed to reach two thirds, sending the issue to next Wednesday.
Defense officials told Congress only six American divisions would be in Europe by July with Eisenhower commanding a six division European force. Secretary Marshall said no new U.S. commitments to NATO were planned, while Senators pressed for details on a possible $100 billion budget and cuts to the draft age. The Senate prepared a Monday vote on lowering the draft age to 18 years 6 months, with Morse proposing 18 years.
Washington reports labor leaders resigning across mobilization agencies in protest of wage controls and business influence. Economic Stabilization Administrator Eric Johnston moves to form a new industry labor public board while relaxing the wage ceiling for pre signed escalator contracts. A three member panel will study a nine cent hourly boost, as price officials order a 3.5 percent rise in new car prices to offset costs.
Automobiles and steels led a broad market advance in New York trading with most stocks higher by about a dollar a share. Standout gainers included Bethlehem Steel Studebaker Chrysler General Motors Goodyear Du Pont Paramount and Johns Manville.

Three men robbed the Roselle state national bank today and fled with 19467.59 in currency and silver. Deputy John H. Horstman said two masked gunmen herded nine employees and three customers into the vault while a third waited outside in a green sedan. The heist occurred about 10 a.m. with no gunfire. Teller Glen Mensehing noted the men had visited yesterday to discuss a safe deposit box.
President Truman departed for a three week vacation in Key West aboard the plane The Independence. The trip began with a three hour flight to Boca Chica airport as he quipped There must be a communist in the crowd.
Ambulance was summoned to a traffic accident on Juda road east of Monroe near Schwar zenberger hill at 245 p m today. Sheriff's officers attended the scene though no further details were available at this time.
U S marines push through abandoned Hoengsong advancing into central Korean front lines. Reports say red and Chinese forces stiffen resistance along the allied positions with patrols probing Seoul defenses and near Amidong.
The Public Service Commission at Madison will investigate without hearing the petition of Smith Burgy Telephone Co of Monticello to discontinue service and abandon its lines. The five-farmers company, served by United Telephone Co, would have United take over operations. A Madison hearing is set for March 14 on Darlington city water rate and sewage rate applications.
Washington report details Roy Fruehauf, Detroit industrialist, testifying that Joseph Rosenbaum claimed two RFC directors were “in his hip pocket” in 1949. Names Walter Dunham and William Willett surface, Rosenbaum denies knowing Dunham. Debate centers on RFC loan rescues and influence tied to Senator McCarthy at Pimlico and Laurel race tracks.
Gov Kohler submits to the senate for confirmation the reappointment of John Rose to the State banking review point for a term ending in January 1856. Rose, a Green River bi to the position, is noted in the dispatch as the nominee under consideration.
Green County Armed Forces Service committee aims to boost funds and organize sendoff programs for inductees and enlistees. They received 2000 from the county board but need more for newsletters files and gifts. Officers plan a monthly newsletter, solicit fraternal groups and churches, and compile a complete list of local service members to aid contacts at bases. The next draft group departs March 7 with newsletters incomplete. plans target April 1 newsletter launch and a servicemen file by the April draft group departure.
In Wisconsin regionals Monroe defeated Middleton 44 36 to reach the finals against Madison West, the No 2 team. Wisconsin High beat Regents 54 33, Edgerton toppled Stoughton 54 37, Fort Atkinson beat Evansville 43 37. Beloit sub regional saw Elkhorn 65 33 over Whitewater City and Janesville 68 47 over Wilmot with Beloit to host Milton Union and Janesville to face Elkhorn in semis before the title game.
The general committee on arrangements began work on the annual Farmers Night event to be held March 28 in Turner Hall. Herbert M. Ainsworth said a vaudeville show with top talents and amateurs is planned for a two hour program. Ben Feldt, George L. Redman and Louis H. Kohli assist, with local musicians forming the orchestra.
The weather bureau warns Wisconsin and Green County of freezing rain sleet and snow tonight with heavy snow in the north and central areas. Strong winds may cause drifting tomorrow as snow began at 1 15 pm and signals point to a repeat of Wednesday night’s conditions.

Louis Lipman, 26, a former Long Island university basketball standout, was arrested in the game fixing probe. He allegedly accepted a bribe to influence a January 1, 1949 LSU vs Duquesne game in Pittsburgh, which Duquesne won 64 to 55. Prosecutors say two more alleged bribe-givers have been brought into the case.
Wisconsin cheese prices remained unchanged on the Wisconsin Cheese Exchange with no sales recorded. Cheddars traded around three car loads at about 42% cents. state brand offerings were noted as unchanged in a steady trading tone.
The board of education voted to issue bonds not to exceed 300000 to finance a building program at East and South schools. A special election is set for March 20 at the 1 Coln School gym to authorize the plan and cover initial improvements, fireproofing, and new classrooms.
