Legion Honors Bruni and Schultz at Green County meeting
Jacob Bruni of New Glarus and Commander Harold Schultz of Monticello were named Legionnaire of the Year at the Green County Council of American Legion and Auxiliary Posts annual gathering in the Zilmer-Riley Post Clubrooms. New officers installed include Nelson Miller as county commander and Mrs. Eberhardt as county auxiliary president.

Company B personnel return to civilian jobs after two weeks at Camp McCoy Wisconsin. Guardsmen rolled trucks into Monroe at noon Saturday unloading equipment at the Armory before dismissal. The next session begins July 9 at 2 p.m. on Saturday July 9.

Club Destroyed At Camp McCoy
The officers club at Camp McCoy Wisconsin was destroyed by fire in the early hours. Loss estimated at a quarter of a million dollars with no injuries reported. The one story building erected in 1942 housed a barroom ballroom dining hall and office and remained in use for daily meals. kitchen and dining room survived.

Goetz Endorsed as Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Candidate
James B. Goetz former Monroe alderman and Gem Radio Stations president received the Republican endorsement for lieutenant governor at the Minnesota GOP convention. The unopposed nod came as a surprise amid other endorsements including Douglas Head for attorney general. LaVander secured the governorship endorsement on the 16th ballot after a long GOP affiliation with more than half the vote. Pillsbury aided the unanimous adoption. Goetz, from Winona, leads the First District GOP as chairman and has pursued the endorsement for months.

Harriet Keener 16, daughter of Mr and Mrs Owen Keener, won Dairy Queen royalty in Monticello after a parade. First runner up was Dianna Isely of Monroe. other finalists hailed from Albany Belleville Brodhead Brooklyn Juda and New Glarus. A Homecoming Lake Dedication festival July 24 includes a lake naming contest with a $50 savings bond prize.

FFA Dairy Judging Team Captures First at Tri-Westby Event
The Monroe FFA dairy judging team won first place among 16 teams at the 25th anniversary Tri-Westby event on Saturday. Members include Jim Salesman John Wegmueller Russell Ridge Jr and Steve Digman. Salesman was top individual and Wegmueller placed fourth.
