Local Finalists In Queen Contest To Gather Tonight

Three Monroe high school students Deena Speich Mary Ann Sacker and Audrey Beach were named finalists in the local dairy queen contest. A judging panel will interview them at 8 this evening in the agricultural building with the winner advancing to the countywide event later this week.

School District Hearings Tonight in Brown Town

Three district actions will be heard tonight by Green and Lafayette County School Committees in Brown Town. The Green County panel would move Rat Hollow school to Argyle, cites annexation island concerns with Monroe. A Watson district petition seeks joining Monroe, while remaining Watson area stays attached to South Wayne. James McGuire petitions to detach from Argyle and join another district.

Tax Changes Outlined For Township Officials

H C Cooper and J Lourde of the Department of Taxation conducted a meeting at the Courthouse last night to give information on the effect of property tax credit and income tax changes. Clerks and treasurers of 15 of the 24 precincts of the county attended. A number of assessors and other interested persons were spectators.

Pheasant Chicks Available July 5

Cooperators in the Green County Conservation League learn the hatch began yesterday and chicks will be ready for pickup next Thursday July 5. Fred R. Simpson says Mon roe Chickeries hatchery asks that chicks be picked up before noon and urges league directors and members to help place the chicks in crates.

Local Amateurs Share Swiss Open Honor With Pros

Manuel de la Torre and Ned Walker shared a pro status while Ray Hustad Jr led amateur scoring at the Swiss Open pro am at Milwaukee Country Club and Monroe Country Club. De la Torre, Kitzman, and Toverson posted 72s, giving a three way tie for pro honors, while Hustad Jr and visiting pros tied for second in best ball. The event drew 60 golfers despite competing Open and Medinah practice conflicts.

Sturgeon Bay Woman Fined for Tax Violation

Goldman, 60, of Sturgeon Bay, was fined $10,000 and sentenced to one year in jail after pleading guilty to income tax evasion for 1956. IRS records show she paid $12,868 but should have paid $33,951, with a shortfall of $21,083.

Square Dancing Planned at Park Recreation Night

The third Family Night of the season features square dancing at Recreation Park tennis courts from 7 30 to 9 p m tomorrow with Fritz Wittner as caller. Free swimming for family groups is offered 6 30 to 8 30 p m, plus games. Swimming lessons began yesterday with 549 participants and total attendance yesterday plus lessons reached 1 260, the largest day of the season. overall attendance to date is 12 014.

Next Concert July 4 Band Groups Perform Again

The City Band hosts a second concert in its theater with a barbershop quartet and a trumpet trio. Quartet members are Malcolm Barlass Albert Buri Robert Ruggieri and Ben Blaser. The trumpet trio features Forrest Dein inger Stanley Neuberger and Hollis Schilt. The show precedes the July 4 fireworks display and faced sound issues in some parked cars.

Milwaukee Hospital Escapee Captured Near Monroe

A 32 year old Milwaukee man Oliver Haldermann, one of four who escaped from a Milwaukee mental hospital, was arrested by Green County deputies at a farm home west of Monroe after an anonymous tip. He offered no resistance and was not armed. The other three escapees were later captured by Milwaukee police after threatening residents at knife point. Haldermann had traveled to Chicago to obtain clothes from a mission.

Milwaukee Seeks More Assembly Seats in Reapportionment

The Wisconsin Senate backs a GOP plan to realign districts while Democrats attack it. Milwaukee leaders led by Mayor Henry Maier demand more city seats, arguing 19 percent of the state population merits about 19 Assembly seats. The plan keeps Milwaukee County at 24 seats and reduces Milwaukee city to 16 full seats and two fractional ones. Democrats warn Gov. Three Injured In Area Mishap Near New Glarus

Mrs Maynard H Disch of New Glarus and her 18 month old daughter Pamela Sue, along with Raymond H Hauser of Route 1 New Glarus, were injured in a traffic accident five miles south of New Glarus on County Trunk H. Mrs Disch sustained a compound nose fracture and facial and hand lacerations while Pamela Sue had lacerations contusions and a cerebral concussion. Hauser suffered deep lacerations to the right forearm and was treated and released. Deputies said a hay wagon tire blew, sending Hauser's tractor to transfer hay when theDisch car struck from the rear as the driver said sun blinded him. Hauser was thrown from his truck. A separate incident reported Sunday involved a Tee Veril Patterson of Route 1 Argyle driving through a fence on the Ralph Stauffacher farm east of Monroe with minor damage.
