FBI widened search for missing civil rights workers in Mississippi

Federal and state agents intensified a door to door and gully to gully hunt in Philadelphia Mississippi for three missing civil rights workers. The station wagon linked to the trio was found burned near Owl Creek as authorities speculated bodies might be in the swamp. Missing are Andy Goodman 20 Michael Schwerner 24 and James Cheney 22. Dulles travels from Washington to coordinate the probe with Governor Johnson and FBI officials.

Fireworks Boat Blast Kills Two on Hudson River

A barge laden with fireworks exploded on the Hudson River killing two men during Macy's celebrated display. Spectators cheered along the riverbanks as two other barges continued firing. John Serpico of International Fireworks Co. blamed a low burst igniting shells on deck.

Doctor Saved Kennedy Life After Plane Crash Mishap

An aide said Senator Edward M. Kennedy had no pulse and near-zero blood pressure when brought to Cooley Dickinson hospital after a plane crash. Dr Thom as F. Corriden credited with saving the 32-year-old Democrat. Administrative aide Edward Moss and pilot Edwin T. Jimmy were killed. Senator Birch Bayh and his wife were injured.

Rockford youths confess break in at Swiss Wheel

Two Rockford youths aged 16 and 17 signed statements admitting a break in at the Swiss Wheel before 1:30 a.m. They forced open a kitchen window and were later held for extradition. Air Officer Killed After Hatch Door Blows Off

Air Force navigator Capt. Richard Carroll, 35, died when a B52 hatch door blew off mid flight. He was not wearing a parachute and fell six miles to his death. His body was found on a farm northwest of Lewisville, Texas, during a search by state and county officers.

Judge Ernst Watts of Delavan won the newly created Walworth County circuit judge post, defeating County Judge Erwin Zastrow of Elkhorn 3879 to 2170. Eight Hangars Planned At Monroe Airport Project

The Monroe City Council approved a 10 year lease with Monroe Airport Development Corp to build eight hangars and related facilities at the new municipal airport. The arrangement funds loan repayment from hangar rents and allows city control of rates, design, and future operations. The $15,000 project includes eight hangars an administration room an office and toilets with snow-removal concerns shared with county.
