Weekend Mishaps List Eight Injured In County Roadways

Weekend highway accidents across the county injured eight people and caused extensive vehicle damage. Notable incidents include Raymond Updike, 18, of Monticello, hospitalized in intensive care after a Clarno collision involving Diane Bahn and John Christen. Other crashes occurred near Monroe and Brodhead, with several injured, including cerebral concussions and neck injuries, and a damaged stop sign in Juda.

Police Investigate Burglary at Zesto Stand

The Monroe Police report a burglary at Zesto Stand located at 1721 10th Street. Entry was gained through a window and about $100 was taken. Police are investigating the incident. MARKET RETREATS NEW YORK (AP) stock market retreat noted in broad, active trading.

Condition Is Very Serious for War Solder Kris Blumer

ALBANY Times Special reports Mrs. Virginia Blumer was informed her son Pte. Kris Blumer, 19, wounded in action in Vietnam May 15, remains very seriously ill in a hospital there. He was hurt by a mine detonation with injuries to the thorax abdomen and left leg. Earlier notices labeled his condition not serious and then very serious with pneumonia and surgery. A June 2 update called his condition critical.

Edward Hickey Jr to Speak at June 30 Truth in Lending Forum

Edward Hickey Jr of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago will headline a Truth in Lending Forum on Regulation Z in Monroe on Monday June 30. The event at the V F W Club, sponsored by the Monroe Chamber of Commerce and banks, runs 4 36 p m to 7 30 p m with a 6 p m free lunch break and no admission charge. Attendees must RSVP by June 25 to the chamber office. The program explains Regulation Z obligations for creditors and the cost disclosure to borrowers, covering agricultural and real estate credit. Hickey is the chamber forum organizer.

Monroe Girl Crowned Green County Dairy Queen in Parade

Darleen Rufener, 17, of Monroe, was named Green County Dairy Queen for the coming year at Brodhead events. Miss Ann Reed is Dairy Princess. Rufener, a Monroe High senior, works at Swiss Colony Inn and has 4-H and DECA honors. The parade drew thousands, with 4-H wins and float prizes noted by officials.

Dairy Day Youths Capture Honors at Show

Four Grand Champion winners and two Reserve Champions highlighted the 4H and FFA Cattle Show during Green County Dairy Day at Brodhead with 170 animals entered. Judging ran 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Grand champions included Purebred Brown Swiss Female Classy Clubbers, Holstein Female Connie Rae Kernen, Holstein Bull Robin Reuter, and Brown Swiss Bull David Brown. Reserve titles went to Jim Shlappi and Robin Reuter. Showmanship trophies were earned by Rick Reuter and David Brown. Additional top blue ribbons and many class winners followed, judged by Dr. David Dickson and Steve Larson with community sponsors broad.

Dairy Show Draws 700 At Brodhead Flower Event

Brodhead's Dairyland Flower Show on June 21 attracted over 700 attendees from Wisconsin and beyond, with numerous exhibits across divisions. The Brodhead Garden Club organized the event, awarding ribbons to top entries in Artistic, Horticulture, House Plants, Youth, and Junior divisions, led by winners such as Milky Way and Cream of the Crop classes.
