Kiwanis Honors Scout Troop 101 For 50 Year Charter
Monroe Kiwanis Club received a plaque honoring Troop 101 for 45 consecutive years of sponsorship and presented a 50 year charter to the Kiwanis. The event at the VFW Clubhouse featured Dr. Nathan Bear and Richard Bahr among others, with Scoutmasters and four Scouts in attendance. The history noted Troop 101 formed in 1914 and never ceased operations, now the oldest in the U S Grant Council.

Wisconsin Region of the Classic Car Club of America tours Southwest Wisconsin. Monroe residents Herman A. Stuessy and Royce Schultz greet the group in Janesville and lead 20 some cars from Milwaukee to New Glarus for Chalet of the Golden Fleece and lace factory visits. The tour continues to Cassville Stonefield and antique shops with a Thyme's banquet in Dodgeville and a House on the Rock stop before dispersing home.

Monona man dies as trench wall collapses at water main job
Joseph Morauske 44 owner of a construction firm died Thursday night when trench walls gave way while replacing a water main in Monona. Fellow workers and emergency crews freed him but a second wall collapse occurred during resuscitation. Madison assembly backs measure for national constitutional convention to elect federal judges. The plan passes Assembly 52-47 and heads to Senate. six Republicans who opposed earlier switch votes.

Second Week Of Girl Scout Camping At Kiwanis Camp
The second week of Girl Scout camping at Kiwanis Youth Camp west of Monroe begins Monday June 23 with 42 Brownies and Juniors registered. The prior week closed with 83 girls from Cadette Junior and Brownie ranks. Bus pickup times are 9 00 at Judo Fire Station 9 10 East School 9 15 Lincoln School 9 20 South School. Car Destroyed In Local Mishap Near Browntown
Robert D. Johnson of Route 1 Browntown suffered possible neck injuries when his convertible was demolished in a 7:27 p.m. crash about a mile northeast of Browntown on Highway 11. Deputies said he was not treated but complained of neck pain. The car left the road struck four guard posts a road sign and a fence post tearing out about thirty feet of fencing. It then returned to Highway 11 and M, went off the road up a bank and rolled onto its left side.
