Knowles Plans Swiss Delegation Trip Itinerary

Governor Warren Knowles released a detailed itinerary for his Switzerland trip as head of the National Governors Conference executive committee. Girl Scouts Plan All-Camp Program at Kiwanis Camp

Outdoor Worship Set for Kubly Park on June 29

Barn Fire Destroys Arden Arlie Denton Farm Barn

A Wednesday night blaze near Oregon destroyed the Arden Arlie Denton farm barn, three miles southwest of Oregon. Four fire departments including Brooklyn Belleville and Oregon fought the flames after a 10 p.m. discovery. hay storage and hog shed were ruined but main barn and other buildings survived. Cause under investigation. Cooperative aid extended from Stoughton Belleville and Brooklyn.

Monroe High announces second semester honor rolls

The second semester honor lists at Monroe High School, announced by retiring principal Lee Olsen, include High Honor Roll members with a 3.80+ GPA and Regular Honor Roll students with 3.20 to 3.79. Seniors lead with many names listed, followed by juniors and a partial roll for other classes.

Genealogy Workshop in Janesville Opens June 21

An all day event sponsored by the Wisconsin State Genealogical Society will be at the Janesville Public Library on Main Street. Activities include research in the local history section, a visit to the Rock County Register of Deeds, a Tallman House tour, and a beginners class with a cemetery visit possible weather permitting. Registration begins at 9 30 a.m. and there is no fee to attend the workshop. A separate Tallman House visit has a fee.

Art Exhibit Showcased by Mendota and Winnebago Patients

An exhibit featuring art by child and adolescent patients from Mendota and Winnebago State Hospitals opens in the lobby of the First National Bank of Monroe and a smaller display at the Bank of Monticello. Sponsored by Green County Wisconsin Association for Mental Health and the Wisconsin Bureau of Mental Hygiene, it aims to show that disturbed youths possess normal talents. The tour runs through 1968 1969 and will be returned to artists after closing.

Wisconsin law expands anatomy gifts for science and transplant

Gov Knowles signs a bill allowing donors to give whole bodies or parts for research and transplant with an anatomical gift card and witness requirements. Surviving spouses may revoke whole body gifts, a change Knowles calls problematic for physician certainty.

Schoenike Wins Third in National Speakup Contest

Monroe Junior High School teacher Paul E. Schoenike placed third in the national Jaycee Speakup Contest in Louisville Kentucky. He previously earned the LeTendre Award at the state Jaycee convention to qualify for the national event.
