A fourth rescue attempt failed to reach four men trapped in a small submarine wedged near a World War II destroyer off Key West. With about an hour of oxygen left, divers labored as two of the crew reportedly were unconscious.
Southern Wisconsin endured Saturday thunderstorms with winds to 70 mph, damaging power lines and leaving many farms and homes without electricity. Wisconsin Electric Power Co. and WP&L reported the worst damage in a decade, with crews from Fond du Lac working through Sunday night to restore service.
Green County Sheriff and local law enforcement coordinated as a weather pattern shifted southward. Willis Hartwig, formerly of Green County, advised that the storm was moving from an easterly to a southern path, prompting deputies to station at key points amid heavy rain.

Vicki Rupnow, 17, daughter of Mr and Mrs Bill Rupnow, crowned Blanchardville Dairy Queen Sunday. Runners up were Wanda Funk and Kathy Goepfert. Judges were Gene Summ, Mrs Frank Schiesser and Mrs John Weiss. Event included a 16 team slow pitch tournament and a 1700 serving chicken barbeque. Corsages and crown donated by Blanchardville Jaycees. Horse show and baseball game canceled due to Saturday rain.
Mary Hopkins, 21, of Cumberland was chosen winner of the annual Alice in Dairyland contest and will work for the state Agriculture Department for a year promoting Dairy State products with a salary of 7,875 dollars plus travel expenses. Runner-up Penny Trumpy, 19, of South Wayne, and Brenda Sherry, 20, of Viroqua also placed, as Marilyn Drew, 22, of Rice Lake, earned Miss Winsome honors.
