July Milk Slump May Be Reduced by Rotational Grazing

County agent Myron E. Jeglum says a July drop in milk production can be curbed by rotational grazing of grass and legume mixes and by using sudan grass pasture by July 15. He advises increasing paddock size or shortening grazing periods as heat and dry conditions reduce growth, and recommends knee high start and six to eight inch stubble before moving cattle. Old bluegrass should be renovated this summer or fall.
