Fireman saves Gaulrapp boy from burning shed

Clarence O. Gilbert 79 Albany Dies After Stroke
Clarence O. Gilbert age 79 of Albany died at 6 last night at St. Clare hospital after a stroke. A native of Rock County born December 27 1875 he was a retired shoe cobbler and had lived in Albany 20 years. He leaves six brothers George Myron Albert Alfred Alton Bert Elmer and two brothers Lee and Edward preceded him in death. Services are set for Saturday at 2 p m at Sharer funeral home Albany with Rev Marcus Lewis officiating burial in East Luther Valley cemetery.

Assembly Group Stalls on Patrol
The Wisconsin Assembly highway committee reported Kohler's bill to expand the state traffic patrol from 70 to 340 members over three years without recommendation. The measure, part of the governor's highway safety program, passed the Senate May 25. The committee also urged killing a separate home rule patrol proposal by La Fave. Preliminary approval was given for a plan to raise the cigarette tax by one cent per pack, generating about 7,400 over two years for the general fund, with a three percent discount for stamp purchases. The State Highway Commission budget of 160 million for two years was approved in the Senate and sent back to the Assembly with a Senate amendment shifting funds to finance an expanded driver examiner program. An estimated 1.3 million is needed for exams next biennium, largely offset by higher driver license fees. The gasoline tax bill from four to six cents per gallon has passed both houses and waits for Gov. Kohler’s action.
